Associate Degree in Liberal Arts

The Liberal Arts degree is our most popular major for students interested in transferring to a university. By earning the Associate degree at West, students have completed the lower division courses required for a Bachelor's degree. The instruction at West is comparable to that received at universities. But, tuition is much lower. Upon completing the Associate degree program at WLAC, a student would enter the university as a Junior. Our Liberal Arts Associate Degree was tailored to meet the transfer requirements for numerous majors in the University of California (UCLA, UC Berkley, UCI, etc) and California State University systems. However, our courses also transfer to most other major American universities.

While many students will select other more career-specific majors once they advance to universities, others prefer to earn their Bachelors degree in liberal arts. The variety of courses required for a liberal arts degree can open a wide range of doors for the student who markets him or herself well. According to the US Department of Labor’s Occupational Handbook,

"Most entry-level positions require people who can learn quickly and solve problems; the specifics are taught on the job. "A general college degree is the major entry-level credential you need," says author and speaker Donald Asher. "Employers are looking for the skills a candidate has to offer."

Career Options

Upon completion of the Liberal Arts Program, students going into the work force are armed with the valued skills of critical thinking, effective oral and written communication, problem solving, and a broad educational background. This set of skills permits students to pursue numerous career opportunities in a wide array of fields and disciplines.
